IV.c Priorities at EU level

  • Leverage EU infrastructures and investments to develop a computing continuum (including edge, cloud, high performance, quantum and high-speed communications) specially fitted for the deployment of AI applications and integration with data ecosystems.
  • Federate Computing (including quantum), AI and Data This point could build on top of all the previous points, leveraging the progress in the different aspects (methods/platforms for federated infrastructures, harmonisation of hybrid infrastructures, methods for automatic balancing of workload/computation). This would also consider the scalability and sustainability of such federations.
  • Exploit the possibilities of quantum computing in terms of capacity, efficiency and energy consumption, with real applications in EU-relevant sectors.
  • Extend interoperability efforts at EU level (references, frameworks, standards) to cover the specificities of the continuum (heterogeneity of resources, lack of specific standards, end-to-end connectivity, new dimensions of interoperability, etc.).
  • Work on end-to-end efficiency, resilience, security and data protection.
  • Deliver specific instruments to enable the scalability of the continuum while considering the alignment with data and AI pipelines, workflows, and lifecycles. The same goes for sustainability, which envisages novel business models and strategies to guarantee proper maintenance and exploitation in the future.
  • Drive the efforts for EU industry to increase competitiveness, raising awareness both at European, national and regional levels, granting seamless access to resources, facilitating \ adoption and providing the right skills for their usage

How can we help?
