European Telecom Initiatives

Focus and activities

The Task Force Telecom aims to get in contact with other European initiatives relevant for this sector and BDVA task forces, boosting collaboration.

Telecommunication infrastructure and specifically 5G applied in various industrial sectors plays an important role in keeping/gaining European leadership in different industrial areas (e.g. industrial automation, healthcare, self-driving cars, …), but also in different technological areas (e.g. edge/fog computing, ultra-reliable low latency communications, massive machine communications, …).

Telecommunication infrastructure as a connector between various industrial sectors (e.g. 5G, Industry 4.0, self-driving vehicles), enables the usage of data across industrial sectors. A large amount of data will be available by the usage of telecommunication infrastructure in different industrial sectors. Artificial intelligence (AI) will be one fundamental technology enabler for the upcoming 6G technology.

The Task Force Telecom is meant to get in contact with other European initiatives relevant for this sector and BDVA task forces and boost collaboration. Its activities investigates privacy preserving mechanisms to make privacy sensitive data available and collaborates with the TF Data Protection.

During 2025, the Task Force is focused on:

  • The transformative impact of AI and data-driven innovation on the telecom sector. Telecom operators are increasingly leveraging AI and data technologies to enhance the value-added services they provide on top of their network infrastructures, positioning themselves as service integrators.
  • The added value of AI- and data-enabled services as part of telecom operators’ offerings.
  • The telecom sector’s role in enabling edge connectivity to support the seamless integration of IoT across the computing continuum.
  • The contribution of telecommunication networks to connectivity within data spaces and digital ecosystems.

To this purpose, the Task Force aims to create a vibrant community around data and AI applied to telecom, fostering participation of members, attracting experts in the field and involving key actors, in order to establish a core group to address the proposed topics and work towards these objectives.

BDVA’s Task Forces meet regularly, discussing the latest updates from the ecosystem, collaborating on publications and organising events. Check out BDVA’s activities and make sure to stay tuned!
