Don't Turf Out Your Tonsils

(Instead, care for your lymphatic system)

Now wiser people in the medical field are starting to saying, "Don't turf our your tonsils," but in the 1960s and 70s, the general feeling was that tonsils served no real purpose in our throats, so if your child had a lot of trouble with sinus issues, sore throats, etc., doctors offered to remove their tonsils and adenoids (which are a second, smaller set a little higher up in your sinuses. Your child would no longer be troubled with tonsillitis!

I recall that my two younger sisters had those surgeries at the same time. I escaped because I had just graduated from high school and got a job - but I remember Mom saying that she thought I should have got mine out too. Now I'm glad I didn't let them turf out my tonsils!

Tonsils and adenoids are part of our body's tremendous lymphtic system. This includes other glands and nodes, such as our thymus gland, thoracic duct, spleen, bone marrow and miles of lymphatic lines - more than our blood vessels. God has designed this intricate system to be part of our immune system. These glands and nodes are places where the system traps and holds infections and germs and viruses until the lymphatic system comes by to pick them up and carry them out of our body, via either our bladder or our bowels.

It is true that sometimes our body is on overload, and the lymphatic vessels don't get it all to the exits fast enough, so the tonsils and adenoids swell up and make us pitifully unhappy. But we ought to be glad and try to help our lymph and immune sytem take the garbage out. Not, so to speak, take away the garbage cans that are containing that ill health guk.

You know what happens, then, right? The garbage scatters in the streets (veins) and your personal living spaces in your body. Matters only get worse; your body cannot cope. No wonder your body cannot resist things like cancer cells, pneumonia, super infections, diabetes, COPD, and whatever is going around. Soon you have fibromyalgia, or a potpourri of infections, aches and pains, and you haven't got the strength to sort them out. Living isn't any fun any more!

If you, or someone you love shows symptoms like; low energy, repeated viruses or infections, fluid swelling up in your limbs or other areas (edema), perhaps even cancer, it might be time to say, "Hey! Where did the tonsils go?"

Whether you still have your tonsils, or not, it is high time to take care of your entire lymphatic system, including your tonsils and adenoids - if you still have them. Here are six tips I've picked up from Sherry Brescia.

1. Get regular exercise. Your lymphatic system doesn't have a pump (heart) like the circulatory system does. So it takes exercise to keep your lymph moving and pumping garbage out.

2. Help your lymphatic system by flushing clear fresh water through your cells, and your blood. Drink 8 glasses a day. It will purify your blood too. And take a load off your tonsils!

3. Your lymphatic system will have less garbage to deal with if you eat healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats as in nuts, seeds... and avocado. Give fast foods, and pre-processed (over-cooked/canned stuff) a wide berth.

4. Most of your immune cells are produced in your spleen and bone marrow, however, about 70% of those good cells hang out in your digestive tract. It follows that you'll keep them happy and healthy if you take good care of your digestive tract. You do that by sticking to healthy real foods, as mentioned above, and taking a probiotics supplement. (Your tonsils will sigh with relief!)

5. Drawing air in through your nose, lungs, and into your abdomen - hold - then let it exhale through your mouth. Repeat 4 to 8 deep breath cycles like this several times a day. This will help pump fluid through your lymphatic system too. And thus bless you with better health. (Your tonsils will thank you by not swelling up once all winter).

6. A lack of iodine may cause congestion of your lymphatic system. If the above five actions don't bring improvement after a while, you can go to your doctor and ask for a test. Generally iodine deficiency is not considered unless you have signs of a thyroid goiter, but a milder deficiency might not have got that far. Iodine can be obtained naturally by eating fish and shellfish. (Ah-ha! No goiter and no tonsillitis!)

If you take care of your lymphatic system, your friends and acquaintances are soon going to remark, "My, you are healthy, aren't you? You don't catch anything that's going around, do you?"

Remember, if they have sore throat or tonsillitis, to express sympathy to them. However, then you can beam at them and explain about the lymphatic system, and how you care for yours.

My Cataracts Story So Far

I've delayed starting my cataracts story so far to make sure it is complete enough to make it worth while. (I've been busy too, on a book project that is nearing a publishing deadline, but that may only count as an excuse in your mind).

I have taken some time for research this morning, and realize that there is more to say on this topic than what I'd realized. For instance, there is a doctor who has discovered some drops that can dissolve the cataracts in our original lens, and so avoid the surgery altogether. Hmm...! I should have started this research months ago!

Last month, in the July Aloe Vera Solutions & Tips, I described the immediate results of my first cataract surgery on June 16. Perhaps for now, I will just report that I've had the cataract removed on my right eye as well, on July 28. I think that surgery turned out even better. it took less time. After an afternoon nap I was able to work on that computer on that book the very same evening. Both eyes were focused and could see together across the room and out the window across the street. I even drove my car that evening to pick up the drops I was suppose to be taking.

The big difference I notice is that whereas I was near-sighted before, and could always pull something up close to my nose and peer at it with one eye or the other, now that does not work. I have excellent long-range vision, but close up reading of fine print, or working on the computer requires reading glasses. I'd bought two cheap ones at Dollarama for $1.25 each, and one better pair at the drugstore for $30. So now I can usually reach one in a jiffy when I need it, but I'm not used to this on-again-off-again business.

The eye specialist advised to wait 7 weeks before I get new prescription glasses. That is to allow the eyes to settle in at the level of vision they will give me indefinitely now. I'm ticking the weeks off as patiently as I can for I would rather keep a pair of glasses on my face all the time, than to do this on-again-off-again fuss. But I do declare that I'm grateful for the better long-range vision, and that both eyes see the same things together!

(The previous six weeks with using one eye or the other wasn't much fun).

Already I have been taking certain supplements for my eyes for a number of years, but my friend Doris, who brought me home from each surgery said she eats blueberries every day. I want to check out other natural remedies like that, and see what I can report to be helpful here, in this newsletter, and also on my website.

All I can say today is that will be another article at another time. For now, this is my cataracts story so far.

I'd be glad to hear from you if you have a cataracts story, or a natural remedy you find helpful.

Want to Identify a Plant?

Sometimes you discover a new plant in your garden, or out when walking, and then you want to identify that plant - but where do you go? It may even happen that you read about an herb that is suppose to be very good for you, but you are curious about how it looks.

Well, I've just discovered an index to pictures of 500 plants. I'm bookmarking it for the next time I want to identify a plant. https://altnature.com/herb-pictures/index.htm
