Daphne's agressively growing aloe vera

I know nothing about this plant. My mother tells me it comes from the Botanical Gardens in Montreal and that it's a very rare species. I don't know.

Any ideas as to the type it is? It's wild (as in, grows in crazy ways), and seems to stem from branches.

I just recently lost one branch... I don't know why. I'm going to attempt to regrow it.
