BDVA supports the development and growth of several data-driven and AI-engaged projects.<\/p>\n

BDVA is currently part of the following projects: Data Spaces Support Centre<\/a>, SCIANCE – AI in Science, WIDCON – Connecting Women in Digital<\/a>, OPENVERSE<\/a>, European Language Data Space<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n \n Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC)<\/a><\/p>\n The Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) aims to contribute to the creation of common data spaces, that collectively create a data sovereign, interoperable and trustworthy data sharing environment, to enable data reuse within and across sectors, fully respecting EU values, and supporting the European economy and society. Funded by the European Commission as part of the Digital Europe Program, the Data Spaces Support Centre is aimed at the public sector and companies that want to create sovereign data spaces.<\/p>\n DSSC will explore the needs of data space initiatives, define common requirements and establish best practices to accelerate the formation of sovereign data spaces as a crucial element of digital transformation in all areas. With the combined expertise of our 12 consortium partners in the project, the Data Spaces Support Centre will provide the best possible support to data space initiatives on the requirements related to interoperable data spaces.<\/p>\n \n SCIANCE – AI in Science<\/strong><\/p>\n SCIANCE is developing<\/span> the<\/span> Resource <\/span>for<\/span> AI <\/span>Science<\/span> in Europe (RAISE) <\/span><\/a>and<\/span> coordinates<\/span> AI-<\/span>enabled<\/span> scientific<\/span> research <\/span>across<\/span> Europe <\/span>through<\/span> a bottom-up approach.<\/span>\u200b <\/span>The project <\/span>mobilises<\/span> leading<\/span> European <\/span>scientific<\/span> organisations<\/span> and<\/span> research <\/span>infrastructures, <\/span>together<\/span> with<\/span> AI research <\/span>centres<\/span> and<\/span> e-<\/span>infrastructures<\/span>\u200b. <\/span>SCIANCE <\/span>will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>identify<\/span>\u00a0AI-in-<\/span>science<\/span> research <\/span>and<\/span> innovation<\/span> priorities<\/span> and<\/span> pilot <\/span>the<\/span> structure<\/span> of <\/span>the<\/span> RAISE <\/span>Secretariat<\/span> for<\/span> AI in <\/span>science<\/span>. It will provide<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>structured <\/span><\/span><\/span>guidance,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>cooperation <\/span><\/span><\/span>mechanisms and strategic <\/span><\/span><\/span>priorities<\/span><\/span>, via a SRIA and <\/span><\/span><\/span>implementation roadmap.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n SCIANCE will also improve data access, <\/span><\/span><\/span>infrastructure <\/span><\/span><\/span>capabilities and skills<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>through feasible <\/span><\/span><\/span>upgrade scenarios<\/span><\/span>\u200b. It will also increase visibility and <\/span><\/span><\/span>integration<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of AI <\/span><\/span><\/span>research and <\/span><\/span><\/span>innovations for <\/span><\/span><\/span>scientific research.<\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Connecting Women in Digital<\/a><\/p>\n Connecting Women in Digital is a Coordination and Support Action funded by the DIGITAL Programme of the EU, dedicated to bridging the gender gap in the digital and technology sectors. Its mission is to bring together key stakeholders across Europe to increase women\u2019s participation in digital careers. WIDCON focuses on identifying and promoting best practices, sharing knowledge, and fostering a more inclusive digital economy.<\/span><\/p>\n The digital transformation is changing industries around the world, but there are still significant gender disparities in many tech fields. WIDCON plays a vital role in tackling this challenge by promoting gender equality and inclusive innovation. By raising visibility, creating more opportunities, and encouraging engagement, the project is helping to build a stronger and more diverse digital economy.<\/span><\/p>\n WIDCON applies a collaborative approach, engaging universities, businesses, policymakers, and research institutions to gather insights, share best practices, and advocate for policies that support women\u2019s advancement in digital sectors. Emphasising evidence-based strategies and co-created solutions, ensuring that recommended actions align with industry needs and real-world experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n \n <\/span><\/p>\n OPENVERSE<\/a><\/p>\n OPENVERSE is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA), funded under Horizon Europe programme. It\u2019s rooted in the ambition to elevate the European Union\u2019s landscape, responding to the global tech competition and fostering technological sovereignty. The vision of the OPENVERSE project is to create inclusive, open, and ethically responsible European Virtual Worlds, enhancing the European Union\u2019s technological sovereignty in the global arena. Its strategy involves integrating diverse technological expertise, fostering collaborative innovation, and ensuring interoperability, privacy, and security in digital environments. OPENVERSE aims to lay the foundational framework for these Virtual Worlds, combining user co-creation with extended reality technologies, addressing legal and ethical challenges, and guiding future policy and industry standards for globally influential Virtual Worlds.<\/p>\n \n European Language Data Space<\/a><\/p>\n The project aims at building a trustworthy and effective data market for the exchange of language resources in the public and \u2013 even more importantly \u2013 in the private sector, in line with the EU Data Strategy. One of the Data Spaces currently under development is the Language Data Space (LDS). Through it, relevant stakeholders, e.g., from the publishing, language technology or press industry, will be able to exchange and monetise their language data and other language resources (e.g., language models) through a single platform, taking EU values and compliance with EU rules fully into account. As a result, the LDS will significantly increase the much-needed availability of clean, high-quality, compliant language data to support the development of state-of-the-art language technologies (LT) and AI-based LT services for a range of businesses.<\/p>\n BDVA supports the initiative with dissemination, supports communication campaigns, social media coverage, etc. BDVA is subcontracted by the European Language Data Space for communication activities.<\/p>\n \n In the last few years, BDVA was part of the following projects:<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n EUHubs4Data<\/a><\/p>\n Most of Europe\u2019s SMEs lag behind in data-driven innovation. To tackle this problem, the EU funded EUHubs4Data project built a European federation of Data Innovation Hubs based on existing key players in this area and connecting with data incubators and platforms, SME networks, AI communities, skills and training organisations and open data repositories. The European federation of Data Driven Innovation Hubs aimed to consolidate as the European reference for data driven innovation and experimentation, fostering collaboration between data driven initiatives in Europe, federating solutions in a global common catalogue of data services, and sharing data in a cross-border and cross-sector basis. \n Destination Earth<\/a> – STA4DestinE project lead by ETP4HPC<\/p>\n BDVA contributed as a subcontracted partner to the Strategic Technology Agenda for DestinE. A group of Associations, part of the Transcontinuum initiative and led by ETP4HPC, jointly contributed to this work, procured as part of the ECMWF Destination Earth Programme and led by ETP4HPC. BDVA contributed with a selected group of experts from its member organisations to this project and in particular to the Data Streaming white paper. The four experts from BDVA were selected through an open call at the end of 2022:: Valerio Frascolla, Dumitru Roman, Mar\u00eda P\u00e9rez and Gabriel Antoniu.<\/p>\n \n
With the objective of serving as reference to the establishment of the Common European Data Spaces, the federation was initially composed of 12 DIHs, covering 10 countries and 12 different regions, and increased the geographical coverage by incorporating other relevant initiatives.<\/p>\n
