Taking Care of Ourselves - Lose Weight By Substituting for Those Soda Drinks

See how much weight you can lose by substituting for all those soda drink you have!

Local governments in the USA, such as Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Berkely, CA. are passing laws to super-tax sugar-sweetened drinks and sodas. If people are addicted to these sugary drinks will a higher cost stop them from buying them? Consumer Reports decided to investigate. Their results are very interesting.

One out of three US citizens are considered obese. Since authorities found that by super-taxing cigarettes 20%, the use of them went down by 20% too, some cities have decided to try this approach with high-sugar sodas and drinks.

Since weight gain is up by 300 calories a day, taking away one soda a day, would reduce that by 150 calories, it should follow that if you take away 2 cans of soda, you will reduce your calories by 300/day. Assuming, of course, that you will not find those calories in other foods or drinks.

If you were to replace one 20 oz. soda per day for year, you would have only 47 cups of sugar instead fo 119. and You would lose 3 lbs. (all else being equal).

If you traded that one 20 oz. soda for Gatorade's Thirst Quencher (20 oz bottle) you would reduce your sugar intake by 57 cups a year, and lose 6 lbs.

Suppose instead, that you trade that soda for a bottle of Honest Lemon Tea; that gives you 80 cups less sugar and you lose 9.5 lbs weight. But wait, you could do still better by brewing your own tea, as I do, and taking just a bit of honey instead of sugar.

Even if you insisted on having a Dunkin' Donuts Iced Coffee instead of the soda, each day, by year's end you would have given up 84 cups of sugar and lost 9 lbs. Oh com'on, why not just make your own coffee add all the ice you want, but just a sprinkling of sugar?

Or... (see how the tips get better all the time?) replace that daily soda with an 8 oz glass of milk. There goes 97 cups of sugar at year's end, and you lose 6.5 lbs. But now you are replacing all that with better nutrition because milk has protein, fat, calcium, potassium and vitamin D. Milk does have some natural sugar, but no where near the soda can.

The very best substitute would be WATER - any amount, instead of the soda. That would wipe 119 cups of sugar out of your diet, and you could lose 14 lbs. Water has zero calories, and many other benefits!

Here's a quick list of the healing powers of water, particularly if impurities are filtered out;

Water prevents headaches caused by dehydration.

Water pampers your heart - water increases blood volume so it takes fewer heartbeats to get the blood to all parts of your body, which means you won't be so tired.

Water fights fevers by lowering your body temperature.

Water taken just before a meal makes you feel full, thus you won't so easily over-eat.

Water, if you drink plenty of it, ensures your digestive tract flushes out waste materials that might make you sick.

Water, when we are well hydrated by drinking lots of it, causes us to have better moods. (Hurrah!)

Getting enough water helps you sweat more, which is important for cooling down on hot days, or after exercise - and it helps you avoid heat stroke.

Really, you would be doing yourself a huge favour, and your loved ones, too, if you gave up those sugary sodas altogether, and resolved to learn to drink lots of water! You would improve your health, save heaps of money and lose some of those obese pounds that have dragged you down.

Don't wait until your community leaders super-tax those sodas and drinks to discourage you from buying them. Take charge of your own health, and decide! Make a plan to replace them with good clean water.

In fact, go for broke - spend the money on a water filtration system, use it! And get truly well!

Natural Arthritis Remedies

October was a month of overload for me. So I found myself looking up my article: Natural Arthritis Remedies on the website. Responsibilities in three major events, even the positive excitement over a book launch, just amounted to more stress than my body was able to cope with. I got a stiff muscle on one side of my neck, a sciatic nerve began to throb when I was on my feet for more than an hour or so at a time. After a week or two of this I realized that even with my careful diet plan not to eat junk food, and taking the right supplements, it is possible to get an attack of arthritis.

I'm feeling much better again now, thanks. But I decided to update that page, and mention it here, so that You may bookmark it and keep the link handy. Sooner or later, you, or someone you know, will want to check for these natural arthritis remedies.

A visitor to my site complained that Safeway in Canada was not offering grocery delivery as I'd mentioned my online shopping guides site. I knew that Superstore (a Loblaws chain in Western Canada) offers a Click n' Pick service now. I haven't tried it out yet, but it seems to be working well.

I decided to check this out, and see if Safeway had any such plans. I'd heard they had amalgamated with Sobey's, so I checked that out first. True.

Then I learned that Sobey's is working with a Canadian enterprise ecommerce platform provider, Orckestra, to bring online grocery shopping to its brands across the country. Before they institute this across the board, they are trying it out right now on a small chain they have recently absorbed, the IGA grocery stores. When they are satisfied that the system is working smoothly it is to be put to work in all the Sobey's and former Safeway stores in Canada.

You can read this article for yourself: computerdealernews.com

Note, this plan, if it is like the one at Superstore, does not deliver groceries to your door, but you can place your order online earlier in the day, and then, perhaps when you get off work, stop by the store, park in a special reserved spot, and dash in to pick up your already packed order. If you have already paid for it online, you just carry it out to your vehicle, and head on home.

My niece, Jalise, works in a Superstore in Abbotsford, BC, and has been put in charge of this department. I asked her, what if I don't feel well enough to drive, could I send a friend to pick up my order? She answered, "Of course. Just add a comment to your order that so-and-so will come to pick it up."

I understand the USA is ahead of us with options for grocery delivery. I haven't researched that lately, so if anyone wants to respond to me, and give me feedback on the methods you have tried and how satisfied you are with them, I'd be glad to hear from you. On my site, about online-shopping-guides, and the most common questions visitors ask there are about grocery delivery. Especially in Canada, and our vast rural areas in particular.
