Taking Care of Ourselves - After Cataract Surgery

On June 16, I had the cataract removed from my left eye and an implant put in. I have just a little more than two weeks experience with it, and basically I'm quite excited.with my improved vision. I look forward to the right eye being done. Though I don't have a surgery date yet.

On the Friday, after my friend brought me home from the surgery in the clinic, and picking up my prescription eye drops, I was hungry enough to go raid the fridge, before I curled up in my recliner for a nap for the rest of the afternoon. The surgery itself only took about 5 minutes or less, but the waiting in the Prep room and then in Recovery, for the doctor to give it one last inspection - has all been rather exhausting. It took from 10 am to 2:30 in the afternoon.

Uncovering my eye at 6 pm for the first set of drops was, well, a bit tricky because my eye was still greatly dilated so it let in far too much light, and it was hard to see it well enough in the mirror to get the drops in. Then I did that again at bedtime.

Throughout Saturday I kept a crumpled tissue over the left eye, under my glasses. I felt fine so I did my usual domestic Saturday chores. It got easier each time I put in the drops. By evening the dilation had decreased to just about normal and when I uncovered the eye I was amazed at how dazzling white the porcelain of the sink and bathtub were in the bathroom. I mean, I knew they were suppose to be white, but I could not recall having seen such brilliant white before! As I looked around I realized that I could see details at the far wall of the next room! All the colours were so vivid, they just about vibrated!

I've always enjoyed colours and been perhaps a little proud that I could discern between many shades of the same colour. Suddenly I knew that I hadn't seen nothin' yet! Life is going to be much more colourful and fun now. When I went for the one week checkup, the following Friday, I told Dr. Ravi, that I'm eager and ready for the other eye to be done.

A complication arose the next weekend, June 24, 25, when I began to feel an irritation on the left eyeball. it felt like a tiny grain of sand which I couldn't move by blinking or lifting my eyelid. After prayer, and checking on the internet for problems that could arise after surgery, I guessed that it might be a shifting of the lens. Or allergies? Maybe to the drops? That folded sheet with the fine print that came with the drops does indicate that allergies are possible.

So Saturday and Sunday I didn't put any drops in. I didn't have as much trouble with that small irritation, but it happened a few times, so now I'm stumped again. But I've made an appointment to see the Specialist on Wednesday morning. Since he is the expert and has the equipment to examine my eye, he should have a look.

Happy Canada Day and American Independence Day!

As Canadians we celebrated our country's 150th birthday on Saturday. So a Belated Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians. Most Canadians celebrate with family picnics or barbecues. Some go to meeting with elected official making speeches. Than many gather in a park for the evening fireworks.

I worked at home all day, and could hear the fireworks at night, but couldn't see it from my backyard, as I have in other years. My neighbour says the trees have grown taller.

We all know that the United States of America is celebrating Independence Day tomorrow, July 4th. If my math is correct, the USA is 241 years old tomorrow, as it was founded in 1776. It seems that Americans like to celebrate with parades, marching music, lots of colour flags and bunting and plenty of happy noise. Fireworks are a regular feature too.

So again, I wish all my American friends great joy as they celebrate their beloved country. May God bless both our countries and help us always to be good neighbours to each other.

I Recommend - The Sock of the Month Club

Chances are high that you have not heard yet of VoxxLife's Sock of The Month Club. Let me be the one to tell you about this exciting venture.

I have mentioned Voxx Socks before (in April and May issues). Exciting new things are happening at VoxxLife.com. Their whole website interface was updated and brought to a whole new level, They have started a Sock of the Month Club, which brings one or two new pair of socks to your door every month at just about half the price.

Hey, it's even possible now to sign up to sell Voxx Socks as a Fundraising Project for your school or non-profit organization. The old-fundraising products like chocolates, cookies, etc,, may not find many takers any more, but once you show what the Voxx socks can do, they sell themselves. What's more, you don't have to have boxes full of socks to sell. All you do is give people your coded link to the website for your fundraiser, and all the profits will be credited to your organization. Download this interactive PDF brochure and application form: VoxxLife_Fundraisers.pdf

But the Sock of The Month Club may be what interests you most. By the time you've tried out one or two pair, you are looking for more. If there are a number of people in your family, you'll want more as time goes on. Or - you will realize that certain friends and relatives really OUGHT to have a pair as well. By signing up for the Sock of the Month club, and indicating you want two pair at a time (in that case you can specify 2 different sizes), you get the very best price, and you don't have to keep ordering extras. Unless you wish.

This is $$22/month for 1 pair of socks a month, or $44/month for 2 pairs. (Retail prices are $30 to $50 a pair!) The only requirement is that you stay in the club for a minimum of 4 months before you quit. This helps them to order in bulk quantities from the manufacturer.

Here is a brochure you can download about the Sock of The Month Club (SOTMC) . You can find the same information on the website and open an account. Sign up for the SOTMC here!
